Do It Yourself - Vix Vapor Rub

It’s hard today to keep up with things, with what’s going on in the world. Every once and a while you hear a tidbit of information that peaks your interest. A friend reported on Vicks Vapor Rub recently. In doing so, I learned that Vicks Vapor Rub use’s Turpentine oil. Turpentine oil is made from the resin of certain pine tree’s. When used in this process, it’s used in very small amounts for fragrance.

Effects:

Turpentine oil can have serious side effects. Such as, headaches; sleeplessness; coughing; bleeding in the lungs; vomiting; kidney damage, brain damage; coma; and death. From being applied to the skin in small amounts it is POSSIBLY SAFE.

Is there an alternative? The answer is YES! There are many online video’s that do a good job of showing how to make your own Vapor Rub. From natural safe ingredients. What will you need? Just four easy ingredients, that can be found just about anywhere. Word of caution avoid using on children under two years of age.

1.) Virgin Coconut Oil-Because of the thickness of it’s a perfect base to start with. It will slowly absorb into your skin, allowing the other products time to work.

2.) Peppermint Essential Oil-It will help to calm inflamed sinuses and any over heated skin.

3.) Eucalyptus Essential Oil-This helps to open up the airways and helps with deep breathing.

4.) Lemon Essential Oil-This is going to help with reducing inflammation and stop germs from spreading.

How to:

You can use your microwave or double boiler if you have one. You want to gently melt down the Coconut Oil until liquified. Then you add the drops of oils, as desired to the melted Coconut Oil and just stir. Find a container or small jar and let it solidify. Let the mixture sit on the counter. You can speed the process along by putting the mixture in the fridge.

DO NOT apply any product to any broken cuts, sensitive skin area’s, or your face. Keep away from eyes. Wash hands thoroughly after use.
